Happy New Year Unraiders!

As we wrap up 2024, here's a look back at some of Unraid's milestones throughout the year, highlighting our releases, major company announcements, and the top Unraid content of 2024. Thank you for being part of the friendliest OS community around.

Unraid OS Releases (7)

  • 6.12.8 (February 15): Addressed critical security and data integrity issues.

  • 6.12.9 (March 26): Included bug fixes and performance enhancements.

  • 6.12.10 (April 3): Delivered important bug fixes and a security update.

  • 6.12.11 (July 16): Introduced an OpenSSH security fix, alongside other improvements.

  • 6.12.12 (August 21): Backported several Unraid 7 beta work fixes and addressed a curl security vulnerability.

  • 6.12.13 (August 22): Corrected a regression impacting HDD spin-down.

  • 6.12.14 (November 26): Bug fixes were backported from Unraid 7, and critical security updates were included.

Unraid 7.0.0 Series (6)

  • Beta.1 (June 26): Opened the door to Unraid 7 public beta testing.

  • Beta.2 (July 12): Added features and improvements to the evolving platform.

  • Beta.3 (October 4): Enhanced subsystem performance while maintaining backward compatibility.

  • Beta.4 (October 21): Introduced more refinements in preparation for the release candidate.

  • Release Candidate 1 (December 2): Major updates, new features, and security fixes encouraged all beta users to upgrade.

  • Release Candidate 2 (December 19): Focused on bug fixes and stability improvements to prepare for the official 7.0.0 release.

Major Announcements

New Pricing Model (March 1): Unraid updated its pricing to support sustainable company growth and better align with user needs through strategic hiring.

New Hires 

  • Technical Program Manager Hire (April 29): Welcomed Nick Bettencourt to the team in a cross-functional Support and Ops role.

  • Full Stack Developers (September 12): Added Pujit Mehrotra and Mike Datelle to accelerate API development and other exciting new projects.

  • eCommerce Developer (6 Jan 2025): A new eCommerce Dev has been selected, and we’re excited to announce them to the community in just a few short days.

Product Updates

  • Update OS Tool (January 10): Released a streamlined tool for smoother OS updates.

  • USB Creator Tool Revamp (July 11): Introduced a faster, more reliable and more robust USB creation experience.

Partnerships

Support Enhancements

  • New Support Portal Launch (July 18): We unveiled a new, more streamlined support portal that offers support ticket creation and history, a built-in Documentation Search, integrated customer satisfaction scores, and more.

Community Engagement

  • Unraid Ambassadors Program Launch (May 31): Unraid introduced an affiliate program and to date, over 500 affiliates have signed up!

  • Events:

    • All Things Open (October 10): Attended All Things Open and co-hosted a happy hour with our friends at Tailscale.

    • Southeast LinuxFest (June 7-9): Attended SELF to connect with the broader open-source community.

  • The Unraid Story (February 23): A behind-the-scenes look at the origin story of Unraid and how it came to be one of the most popular NAS OS’s on the market.

  • A ZFS Masterclass with Tom Lawrence (April 29): A deep dive into ZFS with expert insights from Tom Lawrence.

  • Techno Tim (August 11): Explored the intersection of tech, content creation, and self hosting.

  • IAMSystems (September 10): Highlighted Unraid's role in professional smart home integrations.

  • Tailscale Magic (October 1): Discussed the partnership and integration with Tailscale and all things self-hosting with Alex Kretzschmar.

Looking Forward to 2025

2024 was a transformative year for Unraid, and 2025 promises to bring even more new and exciting OS features, industry events, and company hiring.

Stay tuned for the official release of Unraid 7.0.0 in January and exciting new features on the horizon, like an open-source public API, improved OEM support, updated webGUI, and much more.
